Last year we'd James Blake, this year we've Charlene Soraia. The fact is that Charlene's sound is so reminiscent to Blake's that you could easily mistake both of them. Let's just say that they are the perfect duet partners! This London based musician first came into the spotlight with her cover of The Calling's "Wherever You Will Go", which was used in an advert for Twinings in the UK, peaking to #3 in the singles charts. Her debut album with Peacefrog Records, "Moonchild", followed soon on November 21, charting at a respectable #83. The album's acoustic feeling mixes with the eerie and heavenly vocals of Soraia, creating a melancholic, yet captivating atmosphere. And while some may found her squeals really unnerving, I actually love the way she includes them in her songs, such as in the beautiful "Daffodils" and the obscure yet haunting "When We Were Five". While her lyrics may be a little disturbing at times, there's no doubt that her first effort has catched my attention enough to keep me interested for what's to come. And it seems there's a lot coming ...
