I'm currently looking for some new writers in order to expand the blog given that I can't post the amount of things I'd like to. So if you are interested in writing about anything related to music (news, TV shows, album reviews, introducing artists) just drop me an email to musicisthedoor@gmail.com and we can discuss some of your ideas.

Ruth Lorenzo, Spanish Invasion

The Spanish singer Ruth Lorenzo auditioned for the british X Factor and blow us all away with her amazing talent. Now living in Ashtead, Surrey, she is working on her debut album after finishing fifth in the show.

Born in Murcia on November 10, 1982, Ruth was introduced to music at a young age singing "Annie"'s songs despite knowing what she was saying. At 12 she moved to USA and formed part in several school musicals. Moving back to Spain at 16, she formed a band and toured around Spain until they split.

Impressing everyone in the liveshows with her Engilsh-Spanish song arrengments, she gained high praise from the judges and was signed to Virgin/EMI after the show.

Her debut album is currently stated for a May/June release. Her first single will be "Quiero Ser Valiente" which she featured on a Spanish show. The song will be used for the Spanish drama "Valientes".

Alien Beat Club, an example of diversity

The danish group compraised by Kasper Spring Ehlers (the white guy), Marcel Mark Gbekle (the black guy), Patricia Namakula Mbabazi (the black girl) and Stephanie Lykkehøj Gudmundsen (the white girl), may have lost their title as the X Factor champion to Linda Andrews, but they have had a similar success relesing their debut album "Diversity" by Universal, which charted #12 in the Danish Charts.

They auditioned for the X Factor as individual acts but were later cut. After being cut they were asked to form a group, which they accepted, sailing to the final. Kasper (24), Marcel (17), Patricia (21) and Stephanie (16) are a true example of diversity. They all came from different backgrounds and they are all different. What's more, they all have very unique voices.

Patricia has the big voice, the classical voice all black divas have. She was born on  March 10, 1988 in Copenhagen. In 2008 she participated in the talent show "Elsk mig i nat", but she didn't reach the finals. She was nominated for best Danish "African Achievements Upcoming Artist" in 2009. Marcel is the other with a big voice. Although I like his voice I don't like him, he looks cocky to me. He was born on March 11, 1992 in Copenhagen. He had previously been in four bands being the lead singer and drummer. Stephanie is the little girl with the thin but good voice. She is always on pitch and has proved to have excellent pipes. She was born on January 31, 1993 in Hillerød. She is a drummer and has been the lead singer of five different bands. Stephanie is the only school educated of the group. Kasper has that singer/songwriter vibe. He was born on August 31, 1984 in Herlev. In 2003 he was placed third in the unsuccessful danish version of "Idols". He is my favourite of the group and has a really pleasant voice.

Amanda Jenssen, the jazzy runner-up

The jazzy/soulish singer may have been the runner-up in Idol Sweden Season 4 but she has seen more succes than that year winner, Marie Picasso, whose popularity due to appearing in  Big Brother led her to win it all. After being defeted by Marie by a margin of only 2%, Amanda inked a record deal with Epic Records and on May 7, 2008 she released her debut. Now, with only 21 years, Amanda has two platinum certified albums, her 2008 debut Killing My Darlings which charted #1 on the Swedish charts, and her 2009 sophomore album Happyland which charted #3.

Before deciding to audition for Idol, Amanda was  part of a band called "Oh Hollie Neverdays", where she  had the chance to perform her original songs. In May 2007, just 4 months before auditioning for Idol, the band won the Swedish competition "Musik Direkt". Their prize was a tour in Gambia, I wonder why it wasn't a tour in Sweden or maybe it wasn't a musical tour but a travel tour like, whatever.

Nearly after coming second on Idol, on January 23, 2008 she released her first single "Do You Love Me" being followed by "Amarula Tree" on April 16 and a full album in May 7. Her second and successful effort Happyland was released on October 28, 2009.

Amanda has since been nominated for the Swedish Grammy Awards and after her succesful second album, she went to win two of them, "Best Female Artist" and "Best Composer".

Vacation Diary, a musical perspective on a beach vacation

Day 1:

Finally arrived in destiny after 16 hours on car and 16 hours of unimpterrupted rain. Things doesn't seem to start very good.    My ears are practically begging me for a rest, they hurt a little, an ovbious thing after enjoying my ipod all day. I got a little obsessed with some artists and some songs. The biggest obsessions were the Alice in Wonderland Soundtrack (Follow me Down, Her name is Alice and The Poison are pretty awesome), As in Rebekkamaria (Yours Truly, She Lion) for those who don't know her I'll feature her later, definitely on of my favorite new artists, and I selected some soft songs (Leigh Nash - Ocean Size Love, Lisa Hannigan - Lille, Brooke White, Michael Johns, among others). Mid-afternoon and the rain has dissapeared, unless for now, the sky is still black. I head to the beach anyway. Water: cold, salty and transparent (not so bad). By the night we walk around midtown, I was impressed by the amount of bar singers, there were so many, and also very good ones. I was blown away by one in particular who nailed it with Proud Mary, a twentie something man with a raspy soulish voice. I would have bought his CD if there was one.  I also enjoyed a woman who did a decent job with Torn.  Next thing to do: eat. Quick dinner and back to the hotel to get some rest. My back really hurts, guess I'm to old for this! Just kidding I'm still way too young ;)

Day 2:

Not much music for me today, just some at the supermarket. I looked like stupid dancing around the cans section to I Got a Feeling. I'm beggining to get tanned, I love how it looks on my skin! The only thing I'm hateing now is loosing American Idol. Beach afternoon and singing in the water. Luckily there wasn't anyone around, they would have thought I was crazy. Off to some shopping!

Day 3:

Just 3 days and I'm already sunburned and exhausted, don't know what's happening to me. I have less to write each day, seems I'm running out of ideas! I've listened to Paloma's for 2 days in a row and I'm not getting bored, it's very, very good. Broken Doll: a masterpiece! A bit sleepy now, I'd better rest!

Day 4 and 5:

Two very similar days. Beach, sun and water. My skin is falling by now so I'm pink, I've lost my beautiful tan! Loads of music while resting in a paraguayan hammock looking to the beach. Listened to Little Boots for the first time and I might say it's pretty good. Linda Andrew's debut it's amazingly unique, I love her extremely thin voice.

Days 6, 7 and 8:

I've invented a very funny game, well, it's very similar to the music quiz. Someone who doesn't know my songs, picks one and I've to guess who the artist is and what's the name of the song. It might look like I've copied the Music Quiz, but it's way more difficult, as I've no clues. I haven't won yet, guess I don't know my library well. The weather has been bad, a little windy and rainy, but I'm getting tanned again! Yoohoo! I have got to see the best bar singer here again, remember the one I mentioned who nailed it with Proud Mary? Well, he was here again, I don't know what song he was singing, but it was excellent. Amuzment park tomorrow, will I find some good singer?

Day 9:

Not a singer at all at the park, what happens with this country!! On my way back to the hotel I found one literaly on the street with his guitar, pretty funny.

Day 10 and 11:

My mood is deteriorating. I'm way to grumpy, guess being away from home is making me angry. Mainly bad singers these days. They were trying to sing higher notes than they could.  I've been planning some new sections, I'm pretty excited about them. A few days to go home!

Day 12 and 13:

Just 2 days. This vacations passed fast! Did some shopping these days, buy some presents and clothes. Listening to Kimberley Caldwell right now, AMAZING, this girl has a stunning voice! Planning more new sections and upgrading the old new ones!

Day 14 and 15:

I'm finally back at home, tough I enhoyed it a lot they were a bit too long. The 16 hour trip back home left me exhausted but it's good to be home!

Česko Slovenská Superstar Season 1

Czecho Slovakian Superstar's first season is an example of a good season. The right person won and the right contestants advanced. As you can see, Martin is my favourite of all them, he isn't only a great vocalist, but also an incredible performer and musician, the most deserved win I'll ever seen. Dominika is just cute, isn't she?. "Je suis Malade" is an example of an excellent performance, not even pitchy at once. And Markéta's "Umbrella" is terrific! She is so good, should have made it further! And about the other contestants: What do you think of Miroslav?, doesn't he look like a girl in that picture? , he may have great abs as seen in "Dirty Diana", but that picture makes no favours for him. Ben and Denis are pretty decent singers. The girls are a pretty bunch, don't you  love all this girls eyes?. Leona should have made it further too, she was amazing!.  And Paulina looks just like Paulina Porizkova, is she her daughter?. Share your opinions and remember to vote for your favourite three contestants.

Catching Up With: Sia

The australian beauty who found sucess in the UK is getting ready to release her fourth studio album, "We Are Born", on June 7, 2010. Six songs are already available for listening. The first single is titled "Clap Your Hands". The songs are all very catchy and go in a more indie pop direction. My favourite is "Bring Night",  Sia's vocals really show off in this song and I must confess I'm obsessed with her ooooo's.

Idol Sweden Season 6

First of all, I must say that I was really impressed with this Idol quality. I expected to be an attempt as others, but it was really good. Not only the stage or the ilumination, but the contestants themselves. My top 3 (in gold) are: Erik, the talented teen with a huge voice, since his audition I was convinced he was going to win; Tove, the cute girl with a good voice, Life on Mars was the bomb; and Mariette, the rocker with dreadlocks and a great personality. I also liked Eddie, he had a very unique performing style, but I've to choose  only 3. Vote for your favourite 3 on the poll below.

Ellie Goulding: First Music Videos

As a part of Ellie's week, we are presenting her first two music videos and singles, Under the Sheets, her debut, and Starry Eyed, a masterpice for electronic music. I personally liked Starry Eyed video more than Under the Sheets. In it there are more effects involved and the song it's better itself.

Catching Up With: Camélia Jordana

Although Camélia finished third on Nouvelle Star Season 7, that didn't stop her from signing a record deal with Jive Epic and Sony Music. I  knew since I first saw her something like this would happen, she is too good to be lost. And besides her unique talent, don't you love her glasses? I would buy her album just for that. Her debut single, "Non non non (Écouter Barbara)", was released on January 27, 2010, earning great reviews. I liked the video, it was kind of funny how the man pulls her to dance. Now her eponymus album is available for pre-order on the French iTunes Store, being the release on March 29, 2010.  Just with seeing the cover you know it will be a great album. I can't wait till the 29!

"Tea Party" is the third single from Alice in Wonderland's soundtrack, Almost Alice performed by Estonian singer Kerli. It was written and produced by Kerli and Brian Ziff. The music video is directed by Justin Harder and debuted on March 10, 2010. This amazing video features Kerli throwing a lavish tea party with her guests in abstract make-up and costumes. It is revealed towards the end Kerli added a potion to the tea which causes the guests to turn into dolls which she collects and places on a shelf. I really liked it.

It begins with Osment walking into a party. During the verses, she's seen with her boyfriend. They show both the upsides and negatives in their relations, in correlation with the lyrics. During the chorus, Osment is holding an umbrella while it rains in the room. At the end, the storm gets so bad all the guests leave except for her boyfriend, who takes her by the hand as they exit the room.

Stephanie Smith: Back to Innocence Video Premiere

Christian singer Stephanie Smith released her debut album at the end of 2008, after multiple pushbacks. This song is from a five-song EP, "Stephanie Smith EP", which comes almost a year after Not Afraid’s release. I haven't heard her before, but I'm a total fan of hers after listening to this song. It is really good and she has some amazing vocals.

YouTube Sings Ellie Goulding

This is a recap of YouTube singers singing Ellie Goulding's songs. If you want to follow any, just watch the video on YouTube and suscribe to them. They aren't in any order. Only Becca, who is my favourtie. Please don't get angry other singers.

My favourite YouTube English singer, Becca de la Musique, (she's been featured here before, search her), did a gorgeous job with Starry Eyed. Beautiful vocals, pitch and phrasing. The best Ellie cover I've heard.  And she is beautiful, isn't she?

I found this dog and the pig recently, they are called David's Lyre. At first I thought: oh, another bad cover by two horrible singer, but after hearing it, I thought: wow, I really like this guys! Though the dog had a better voice than the pig, whose voice I didn't liked much.

Another british singer which I really like. This young talented singer makes me remember of Ellie's vocal, they sound very similar but she manages to make the song sound unique.

A beutiful german voice covering Ellie's second single. I like the slow beggining a lot, very original. Pretty good guitar playing too. A few pitch problems but excellent overall cover.

Two cousins, one has an incredible voice and the other is a decent guitarist. I liked it, a LOT.

Bath singer, Gabrielle, is another young singer. Love her style, and she is GOOD! Like how she sang faster towards the end.

Haha, I was loving this guy until he answered the phone at the end of the song while he was still singing. Should have finished man, you were doing amazing. The first man who takles an Ellie's song and nails it. His name is Alex Hall, go, google him.

This guy is amazing, makes me remember of Alex Lambert, isn't he similar? Cooper has many good covers and he loves Ellie, as we all do.

Jen is a british singer. She has a very unique voice, unfortunately the video cuts at the end, fuck, I was really enjoying it.

OK Go: This Too Shall Pass Video Premiere

"This Too Shall Pass" is the second single by OK Go from the album Of the Blue Colour of the Sky.  It was released in January, 2009. The band took the rather unorthodox route of creating two official music videos for the song, both of which premiered on YouTube. The first features a live performance of the song in collaboration with the University of Notre Dame Marching Band. The second features a giant Rube Goldberg machine, constructed to operate in time with the song. The popularity of the second music video of the song has been compared to that of the band's video for "Here It Goes Again"

The second and official music video features a four-minute, apparent one shot sequence of the song being played in time to the actions of a giant Rube Goldberg machine built in a two-story warehouse from numerous random objects.

The video premiered on YouTube on March 2, 2010. Within a day of the video's premiere, it was viewed more than 900,000 times.

Ke$ha: Blah Blah Blah Video Premiere

"Blah Blah Blah" is the second single from Ke$ha's debut studio album, Animal. The song features additional vocals by 3OH!3. Co-written by producer Benny Blanco, Neon Hitch, Sean Foreman and Ke$ha herself; she has stated that the song speaks of men in the same way that they have talked about women in the music industry. It was officially available for U.S. radio on February 2, 2010.

The music video was directed by Brendan Malloy and was shot in Los Angeles during January 2010. It premiered on February 23, 2010 on Vevo. The main plot is relative to the song's lyrics, consisting of Kesha going on dates with guys who keep on talking – "blah blah blahing" – so she finds her way to shut them up.

Kate Nash: Do Wah Doo Video Premiere

Doo Wah Doo is the first single from Kate's second album "My Best Friend Is You" due to be released on April 19, 2010. Nash confirmed on her blog that she filmed the music video for the single on February 18, 2010,"I shot the video for Do Wah Doo last week on thursday and it was so so much fun! The best fun I ever had on a video shoot. It stars a lot of my wonderful friends who are pretty much amazing. I wrote the treatment almost a year ago, it’s a love story set on a plane in the late 50’s, for some reason the idea has always been in my head." Nash also posted some pictures of the video shoot, showing her and her friends (including photographer and close friend Wesley Goode, who starred in Nash's video for "Pumpkin Soup") on a plane. The music video was available from March 4, 2010.

An Introduction to Ellie Goulding

Ellie Goulding (born Elena Jane Goulding on 30 December 1986) is an English singer-songwriter and guitarist. She rose to fame after topping the BBC Sound of 2010 poll and winning the Critics Choice Award at the 2010 BRIT Awards. She was signed to Polydor in September 2009, being her first extended play, An Introduction to Ellie Goulding, followed by her debut full-length studio album, Lights, which was released on 1 March 2010.

Ellie was born in Lyonshall, England. She learnt to play the guitar and write her own folk-inspired music at the age of fifteen. While attending the University of Kent to study drama, and exposed to electronic music, she developed her sound initially with the help of Frankmusik on the track 'Wish I Stayed', and then later with Starsmith, who went on to become her chief collaborator and primary producer of her debut album, Lights.

Her debut single "Under the Sheets" was later released on independent label Neon Gold Records rather than Polydor so that she would not be put under too much pressure. The song premiered on BBC Radio 1 on 30 September 2009, and it has since gained heavy airplay.

Prior to the release of her debut studio album, it was announced that Goulding topped the BBC Sound of 2010 poll, which showcases the critics, broadcasters and music industry insiders' top choices for rising stars and artists for the coming year. She also won the Critics' Choice Award at the 2010 BRIT Awards which makes her the only artist to top the BBC Sound of... poll and win the Critic's Choice award in the same year.

Goulding's debut album, entitled Lights, was through Polydor on 1 March 2010, preceded by its second single, "Starry Eyed", which was released 22 February 2010. For the majority of the album, Goulding worked with English producer Starsmith. It reached number one in the UK Albums Chart and number twelve in the Irish Albums Chart in March 2010.

American Idol Top 20 Thoughts

This will be a new section being posted all Sundays (I get to see the show on Sunday). I'll give my thoughts on each remaining contestant performance. They are ranked being the first my favourite and the last the most forgettable of the bunch. This is my favourite Idol season, despite many saying this is one of the worst, it has so many talented female singers. It is definitely a girls year. So, here we go.

THE BOYS:

1) Alex Lambert - “Everybody Knows” by John Legend. Yeah, I'm giving the top place to Alex. Despite his lack of stage presence, this guy has talent. I really liked this acoustic performance of the song and I must say it was my favourite of the night. His stage fright really shows though. He didn't look too comfortable but definitely better than last week, a huge improvement. What was that thing he said, he invented an idiom? Intigued, what was he saying?. Another performance like this will get him a spot in the Top 12, and, even if he sucks, I think he will still make it. His voice is unique and he is cute, earning him some of the women votes. Plus a beautiful recording voice, have you heard the iTunes versions? Excellent.

2) Lee Dewyze - “Lips of an Angel” by Hinder. I didn't like his performance much but I'm his fan. Chasing Cars was amazing. He has proved that he can arrange songs to make them their own and he has a pretty good voice. As Alex, he should get rid of his nerves and then he will have an amazing performance. He won't have any trouble making it in the Top 12 as long as he presents a good song, if he doesn't he might be in trouble, but I don't think he will.

3) Casey James - “I Don’t Want to Be” by Gavin Degraw. I didn't liked him before this, his audition and last week performance were both awful. But he really improved. He also has a good raspy voice, perfect for a soulish rock. Another who won't have problems in  the result show. What's going on with Kara? Paula's scandal 2?

4) Michael Lynche – “This is a Man’s World” by James Brown. Does anyone hates this guy? He is to good to be hated. His baby story is old history by now, stop showing it!. Good big voice, I think the biggest in the bunch. Despite this, I'm not too excited with this guy, he doesn't bring anything special or unique as the others do. Will he make to the Top 12? Sure he will. Will he survive after this? If he brings something new, he will, if he doesn't, he may be in trouble.

5) Andrew Garcia – “You Give Me Something” by James Morrison. Andrew is slowly falling and loosing some fans in the way. Since Straight Up in Hollywood week, he has failed to impress. He is a really amazing singer and arranger, but unless he presents a good song on Wednesday, I think he will be in serious problems. Many suggested this is a strategy to make the early frontrunners not to look as one, but I think it's not, the guy is becoming more boring with each week. Will he make it? Yes, he still has enough fans to get him a spot on the Top 12. Will he impress us this week, the fan number will increse.

6) Tim Urban - “Come On Get Higher” by Matt Nathanson. Tim is slowly scaling in my ranking. Despite what everyone says, I like this guy. And I agree with Simon, he improved a lot since Apologize. I guess everyone thinks he should leave because he took Chris (who wasn't good at all) place. Come on! Get over it. The kid is good. And be prepared, he will make it to the Top 12. You know, shirtless pics = votes.

7) Todrick Hall - “What’s Love Got to do with It” by Tina Turner. Todrick, Todrick, Todrick. What are you doing? Are you trying to ruin your chance on Idol by picking horrible songs and making them even worse? Did he actually writted a hole play? He can sing. I guess he is the one who is leaving on Thursday, unless he does what the judges said, JUST SING.

8) Aaron Kelly - “My Girl” by the Temptations. The other guy leaving should be Aaron. America really wants Clay Aiken's little brother? He is just bad. I can't stand him. I don't like the country vibe he is pulling and his voice is awful. I'll be very disappointed if he doesn't leave.

The Girls:

1) Lilly Scott - “A Change is Gonna Come” by Sam Cooke. I just love her. I love her indie vibe, her voice, her look. I just love her. She is definitely the one to beat. She has a beautiful and unique voice, plus a cute phrasing. Unlike some of the other girls, she (as Crystal does) knows who she is and who she wants to be as a singer. This girl could make it top the Top 2 if she keeps impressing us. She has proved consistency since Hollywood, bringing uinque and strong vocal performances. I was truly fascinated with her performance. The best of the night by a million. Will she leave I'll quit watching the show. I love her that much.

 2) Katelyn Epperly - “The Scientist” by Coldplay. The other girl who impressed me. In comparison with Lilly, she hasn't been so constitent. In week one she was forgettable but she is in a leage of her own after this. She had one of her first moments. It was a bit slow, but not as much to fall asleep, Ellen: You were not funny ruining her moment. She became relevant with this. Amazing vocals and nice piano playing. Totally Top 12 material.

3) Lacey Brown - “Kiss Me” by Sixpence None the Richer. I'm a fan of hers. She has one of the most interesting voices on the show, she is like the Megan Joy of this year. I totally understand why she was cut last season, she and Megan have similar voices. You may be impressed of her high ranking, but I consider the song was good. Despite some pitch problems, she is amazing. I'll feel bad if she doesn't make it to the Top 12. She shoul bring an excellent performance like Wonderful World in order to continue, I'm afraid if she doesn't she will have problems. But I suspect she has a big fan base in order to keep her in, despite the song she sings.

4) Siobhan Magnus - “Think” by Aretha Franklin. She's a little quircky thing, and I love it. Funny mohawk cut. She has proved to have the best vocal range of the girls. She could really sing anything, and it will still sound amazing. I liked her version, despite some afination problems, that high note at the end was crazy. She gained some fans for that. Top 12? Sure, she is one of a few to have a spot assured.

5) Crystal Bowersox – “As Long As I See The Light” by Creedence Clearwater Revival. Crystal is a real artist. She is that package Kara always talks about. Good voice, good look and she really knows who she is and what to sing. I ranked her low just because I'm not really a fan of hers, but I still like her. The girl has talent and she is the new frontrunner. No doubt she will make the Top 12.

6) Didi Benami - “Lean on Me” by Bill Withers. Once frontrunner now hardly criticised by the judges, Didi may be in trouble this week. Although I think she wasn't that bad, the judges did, so America did too. She gots a beautiful tone and she is beautiful. She must choose a song that impresses us all like Terrified. Unless, she does this, she will be splitting votes with Katie and Paige and her future on Idol will probably be ending.

7) Paige Miles - “Walk Away” by Kelly Clarkson. Nice girl, great personality and good vocals. Had the producers showed her more, she'll be the frontrunner. Colouring books?, that doesn't works. Good song choice, but a bit forgettable. I¡m in love with her big owl eyes. I would rather see Paige leaving that Didi or Lacey.

8) Katie Stevens - “Put Your Records On” by Corinne Bailey Rae. She can say “Give me a kiss” in 6 languages. Is that even a talent? She is too young and unexpirienced, should have waited a year or so to audition. With so many unique girls, Katie will probablly be eliminated for being too simple.

So my predictions are that Todrick, Aaron, Paige and Katie will be eliminated despite what they do. There are more talented contestants that them.
