Sky Ferreira: New Album Update + "Blue Jeans" Cover

Photobucket

Sky's been teasing her debut album since 2009 but that never really happened. Our MDS Sound of 2011 10th placer  is finally ready for the album now, three years later, and this time, it's for realz! The album will be titled "Wild At Heart" and it'll be released on Summer 2012, with the first single of it coming on March. Apparently, Sky is putting the electropop sound aside and now is going for a more Blondie driven one, I won't complain on that one! You can also play some of her demos HERE plus check her cute cover of Lana Del Rey's "Blue Jeans", our MDS Sound of 2012 winner next ...

Catching Up With: Shackles: Remember

Photobucket

SITE HERE

After losing two of it's members, XF Norway S1 runners up, Shackles, which was manufactured at bootcamp and impressively sail to the final, is back. Only Lwam and Charlotte remain now, and let me tell you, it wasn't much of a loss. The girls debuted their first single, "Remember" on May 26 and they managed to reach a #27.  The track is definitely a dance tune with lots of electro influences and despite it focuses more on being catchy than on the vocal aspect, the track succeeds to show what the girls can give. After all they aren't trying to be the best singers, they want to entertain and that's exactly what this song does.

Eric Saade: New Album + Hearts In The Air Music Video

Photobucket

You probably remember Eric as the Melodifestivalen 2011 winner or as the 3rd placer in the Eurovision. He was definitely not my favourite act nor singer. He's just comercial disco pop, and after all, that's the kind of music they love in Europe. Eric's second album, "Saade Vol 1" was released on June 29 by Roxy Recordings while the second volume is expected for November. His latest single, "Hearts in the Air" has peacked to #2 since it's release on June 7.  And that makes perfect sense. After all he's been having a lot of exposure recently. As for the music itself, just a major meh.

Catching Up With: Florrie: Experiments EP + New Music Videos

The great Florrie finally released her second EP, "Experiments", on June 14, 2011 instead of the planned May 26. Well, I can tell you that this delay was worth it! Despite reciving some big offers, she's still unsigned, basically cause she wants to have total control of her work, a good move for now if you ask me. Once more, she delivers some really strong material all in her characteristical 60s retro vibe matched with some fresh electro beats. I hope she gets her deal soon and releases a much better album!

Danish Week: Catching Up With Sys Bjerre + Album Review

Photobucket

MySpace HERE.
Facebook HERE.

Since I first introudced Sys back in July 2010, the girl has had some serious progress in her carrer! Her sophomore album, titled "All In", was released on September 20, 2010 by Universal Music, as I previously reported. The album is all performed in danish and although I wanted some English in it, I can't say it isn't amazing! There's something about her that I just love and I can't help it. Maybe it's because she has "it" or maybe it's because she's just great!

Catching Up With: Rikke Lie: New Single, Better Off!

Photobucket

Rikke Lie is back! The amazing singer returns to the spotlight with her new single, "Better Off", which is taken from her upcoming album expected for later in the year. The single, which was released on March 25, 2011 via Universal, is a heartfelt slow ballad which deals with probably the most written theme in music, love. And despite the repetitive theme, Rikke makes it feel brand new and fresh, in the way only she cans. It showcases her beautiful childish restrained voice perfectly and the beauty in it really shows. This is probably even better than her great first single, "Good Girl" (HERE), because it really focuses on her voice and the message. Props for Rikke! This will be an amazing album!

Catching Up With: Luce, Nouvelle Star 2010 Winner: Debut Album and Single!

Photobucket

SITE HERE.

The amazing Lucie Brunet, Luce as we all know her, who won the latest and final season of Nouvelle Star, is been practically invisible this past months for us. The fact is that she's been working on her debut album, something that's for sure going to be great! The album will be named "Première Phalange" and it's released on May 23, 2011. And she's keeping the crazy! We all loved her fun attitude-full performances and her strong characteristical voice and that's definitely showing in her music! Her upcoming first single, "Eté Noir" is exactly that! With all the riffs and great things about her voice! Luce also has a new site and she's releasing a video per week for each of the songs of the album, and of course they are great! Each of the 12 tracks seems great and I'm of course getting this. My only question is if any of them are in English, cause she delivers perfectyl in it. Still, I'm sure this will be amazing!

Catching Up With: Sky Ferreira: As If!, Debut EP!

We all remember Sky Ferreira from the MDS Sound of 2011 (HERE) and since we love her here, what a better way of showing our love by featuring her music?! Sky released several singles in the past, neither of them making a big impact in the charts. On March 1 she released the single "Sex Rule", third of her album. Following this, an EP titled "As If!" is set to be released on March 22, 2011 by Capitol Records, and we all know it'll be a success! The song doesn't have a deep message but it has a great one! It's catchy and funny! This may be the coolest lyric video I've ever seen, seriously, it's amazingly fun! If you aren't a fan, the video in it's own is incredible!

Catching Up With: In-Joy: First Single, B.O.O.M.

Photobucket

Many of you probably won't remember danish boyband In-Joy, from last year's danish XF. They were the 8th finalists and originally a 4th pice band, which was created by Soulshock on Bootcamp, and now they are a trio, Essi, Kevin and Jannick. The track, which will be their first single produced by their mentor, is a The Wanted-ish urban pop song with a catchy clapping beat and a good chorus. If you were a fan of them throughout the show, you'll like this, cause it's exactly what you could expect from them. And if you are looking for some good vocals, you should maybe check another artist.

Catching Up With: John Park: First Single, I'm Your Man + Superstar K2

You may be wondering who the hell is he!! Well, he was one boring contestant who auditioned for American Idol in it's 9th season and reached the Top 20. After this, he auditioned for Korean show, Superstar K2, where he reached the Top 2, losing out to Huh-Gak. Accordingly, he only auditioned for Idol as a preparation for Superstar. Don't buy that at all! If you still can't remember the kid, as it should happen, check his Superstar performance below, where he sang "Man in the Mirror", definitely the best performance I've seen of him. Coming as the runner-up has been certainly benefitial for John. His first single "I'm Your Man", has just premiered on YouTube and it's been getting great reviews. My opinion, well, it's definitely a good song, which showcases his beutiful jazzy tone, both in english as in korean. I don't know if I'll buy this but fans will certainly do!

Catching Up With: Maaike Vos: "Stop" Music Video featuring T.I.M.

Maaike Vos was the runner-up of the latest season of the Dutch X Factor, which Jaap won. The girl, however, was also signed by Sony Music and  is now working on her debut! This song is a collaboration between Maaike and dutch band T.I.M. which was released on November 8, while the music video premiered on November 15. I'm not a fan of the music video, although Maaike looks amazing. It's a bit boring and monotonous, and very predictable. I don't know, it looks really low quality and cheesy to me. The song, however, is incredible! Maaike's voice is sounding terrfic and she's pulling some really difficult notes! And the other singer has a really pleasant raspy tone! I'm more than anxious for her album!

Catching Up With: The Johnsen Sisters: First Single, "Reason"

The Johnsen Sisters are a norwegian sister duo who took part in the first season of the norwegian version of the X Factor. The sisters came out 8th, a really good place considering the talented Rikke Lie came out only 9th. They have since released their first single, titled "Reason", which was released June 21, 2010. The song isn't incredible but it's exactly what I was expecting from them! A mainstream country tune! Their voices aren't amazing but are ok, enjoyable indeed. Not pitch perfect but what's special in them is their passion, they sing with such joy that it actually makes me forget of all the little mistakes in their voices. Expect a really good country album from them!

Catching Up With: Todrick Hall: It Gets Better Campaign Music Video

Todrick Hall is probably one of the most hated and controversial contestant on American Idol. Last season, Todrick was surrounded in scams scandals involving children wihch helped building a big amount of haters. Now, Todrick is trying to revindicate himself by releasing songs against bullying and discrimination, and, as much as you hate him, you cannot say you hate this song! It's really beautiful and he sings it superbly! Why didn't you sing like this on Idol man?!

Catching Up With: Jaap: Debut Single, Walk To The Other Side

Since winning the latest season of the X Factor Netherlands, which I'll be covering, Jaap has been in the works to getting his first album out. Being signed by Sony BMG, Jaap has already released two singles, his winner's song, "Don't Stop Believing" and the brand new "Walk To The Other Side". The new single will be released on October 29, 2010. This song is actually really cool! His vocals are spot on and the song is instantely catchy. It feels like jazz at the beggining but then it feels like mainstream rock. He was the best vocalist on his XF season, so it wasn't surprise he won but this song is absolutely amazing! I can't be more anxious for his album now ...

Catching Up With: Tove Styrke: New Song, White Light Moment + Debut Album Release Date and Cover

Tove's been doing great since Idol. She signed with Epic, her first single, "Million Pieces" was a succes and now she's getting ready to release her debut album! The eponymous album will be realeased on November 12 and as we wait for it, we have this new song, titled "White Light Moment". Altough it's a clip of only less than 2 minutes, we can really aprreciate how Tove sounds! Her vocals are incredible and really quircky, and I'm really digging her sound ... Plus, that cover looks beautiful, this album will be EPIC!

Catching Up With: rebound!

Many of you may be thinking right now who the hell are they ... well, they are rebound! This guys are no stranger for swedishs, in fact, they were both contestants on the last Idol season, on 2009. Eddie Razaz and Rabih Jaber, who finished 6th and 7th respectively, you can check my last season recap HERE. Since then, both friends joined forces to create rebound!. And glad they did ... The guys were signed by Sony BMG and released their first single, Hurricane, on April 12, 2010, which charted #1 on the Swedish Charts.  "Not Helpless" is their second single, released on August 9, 2010. I really liked them on Idol but didn't think they will made it as solists, so this group thing is a great idea ... Their sound is really RnB with some rap and pop influences. Their debut album is set to be out late this year or early the next one. I'm really enjoying this peeps ...

Catching Up With: Paige Cook

Paige Cook isn't a famous artist, yet. This sweet girl first catched my attention on YouTube, where she uploads her covers. I contacted her and I did an interview to her, which you can check HERE. Since then, Paige has released her first EP independently which is titled "Unplugged Heart". The EP was released on July 20, 2010 and features 6 original songs by her. The album has a really folky/acoustic vibe but it could be also considered a soft pop, maybe in the Sara Bareilles vibe. It's really catchy and I strongly recommend buying it. Apart from releasing her first EP, Paige has auditioned for this season of American Idol and she's got all my support! This talent shouldn't be wasted ...

Catching Up With: Scott Newnham: First Single, First Music Video

Our favourite brickee, Australian Idol S7 eight placer, Scotty Newnham, is just starting his music carrer. Some time ago, Scott was signed by Razor Records and released his first single on September 3. The music video for the song, titled "Really Me" debuted on September 2 on YouTube. Considering Scott is a newcomer, and has never performed before Idol, this song is really ok. Pretty RnB meets Hip Hop. The video is really excellent, Scott looks terrific and the video is actually pretty enjoyable. However, the song doesn't have any powerful moments, it's a bit plain. But it's his first, so, let's see what's next ...

Catching Up With: Anne Arrak: I'm Here, First Single

Anne was one of my favourites during the third series of Estonian Idol, she had that hard rocker voice and the looks to carry it, she was also one of the best vocalists and was extremely talented. Unfortunately, Anne fell short when she only achieved a 7th place. Time passed and on February 26, she released her first single through YouTube, titled "I'm Here". The song is really good. Her vocals are as stunning as always and although the song is a bit slow, I could easily buy this. However, it felt a bit out-dated, almost like an 80s tune, if think it was because of the prolongation of the chorus, yes, I didn't liked that much, but she's still great!
