The Covers: Like A Prayer
05 May, 2010 3:48 PM
One of Madonna's most popular songs, Like A Prayer, sold over five million copies when it was released on February 29, 1989 and is now considered one of her best songs. The highly controversial music video at that time directed by Mary Lambert, where crosses were burned, went on to win the Viewer's Choice Award at the 1989 MTV Video Music Awards. I don't see why all that fuss was about, but well. Apart from that, the song is incredibbly written and we should applaud the writers, the very one Madonna and Patrick Leonard.

Black and Gold is the lead single from Sam Sparro's eponymous first album. The song has been remixed by Max Sanna and Steve Pitron, Paul Epworth, Al Usher, Kings of the Universe, Komatic and Russ Chimes. The original version of the single was made available on iTunes on March 23, 2008, with the entire album available from March 31. The song explores the relationship between reason, spirituality, and love. The song has been covered many times, I selected the most notable. Vote for your favourite version at the end of the post to decide which is the best. You can vote more than once.

Stop Crying your Heart Out
Is a song by Oasis. It was released as the second single from Heathen Chemistry on 17 June 2002, peaking at number 2 in the UK charts. It went silver in the UK. The song got to number 76 in the UK again on 17th October 2009. The song is an 'epic weepy' anthem, reassuringly advising that in times of hardship, simply get over it and get on with your life. Noel Gallagher explained the song saying 'A friend of mine was going through a pretty bad time and I sort of wrote it with him in mind.'

The Covers are a new section on the blog where I'll post the original song and some covers of it. Then you'll be able to vote for each of it and later determine which is better, the original or the cover.
