I'm currently looking for some new writers in order to expand the blog given that I can't post the amount of things I'd like to. So if you are interested in writing about anything related to music (news, TV shows, album reviews, introducing artists) just drop me an email to musicisthedoor@gmail.com and we can discuss some of your ideas.

Mel said goodbye to her beloved girl group Gap5 last week after showing an oustanding incompetence to properly mentor them. 5 remain now and this week, the finalists will perform songs from the year they were born. The songs were chosen by the fans, so obviously, they've done a better job than the judges.  Who'll go home before the semis? ... It's time to face the music!

It was another bad week for Brit Mel Blatt as her much hyped girl band Gap5 had to sing for their lives against powerful singer Māka Fiso. It was Stan Walker who ultimately lost his act but Mel won't forget easily. Also saying goodbye, Fletcher Mills, whose run on the show hasn't been easy, to say the least. The remaining 8 contestants will take on Top 40 hits tonight. Will the judges pick the right songs for their acts? Has Mel learnt her lesson? (Don't count on it)  ... It's time to face the music!

While most contestants still keep disappointing us, some early favourites Anna Wilson, Benny Tipene and Jackie Thomas starting to step up to the challenge. Last week, Taye Williams left the competition, news to which Stan didn't react well. The Top 11 will now take on the best of British music and looking at this set list, I expect most of them to bomb. Shall we start?

The live shows began last week when the Top 13 took the stage to tackle #1 hits. Unfortunately, one of them was a flop, as indie darling Eden Roberts was sent packing when facing hip hop duo L.O.V.E. With only a few stand outs, the first night was a big disappointment. This week we are celebrating NZ music month, which was first celebrated on May 2002. Will the remaining acts overcome their jitters tonight?

New Zealand is finally getting their own edition of the XF. The show was originally announced on 2010 but it wasn't until early 2013 that it went into production. Hosted by Dominic Bowden, who was previously seen on  New Zealand Idol, the show premiered on April 21, 2013. Australia's talented has always been impressive, so we've got to wonder, are the Kiwis equally as good?

Poll: X Factor New Zealand Is a Go!

 photo Banner_zps5a83ddce.png

UPDATE: I've decided to start covering the show! Since this is it's first season, I won't be recapping either the auditions, bootcamp or Judges Houses, just the liveshows. Let's just treat it as an experiment! The first performance show airs May 19!

Almost 3 years since first announced, the X Factor NZ is finally seeing the light of day. Judged by Daniel Bedingfield, Melanie Blatt, Ruby Frost and Australian Idol S7 winner Stan Walker, the show, which premiered today, is NZ's first attempt at the franchise. XF Australia has been quite great the last couple of years and The Voice Australia is a monumental success. Could NZ achieve the same amount of talent? Can the production values be as high as their Aussie counterpart? Most importantly, can it produce a star? As you can see, I'm in a dilemma and I need your help to solve it. You'll find a poll after the jump and hopefully, it'll make me decide if it'll be worth recapping!
