I'm currently looking for some new writers in order to expand the blog given that I can't post the amount of things I'd like to. So if you are interested in writing about anything related to music (news, TV shows, album reviews, introducing artists) just drop me an email to musicisthedoor@gmail.com and we can discuss some of your ideas.

The Voice Of Ireland: Season 2: Top 24 Perform - Part 2!

 photo TheVoiceofIreland.png

The first twelve contestants performed last week and each mentor had to make a tough decision by choosing which of the contestants in the bottom two to send home. For Jamelia, Sophie Rischar was sent packing, Daryl Phillips lost his place on Team Kian, Dean Anthony lost out for Team Sharon and Velvin Lamont was the unlucky eliminee on Tea, Bressie. Tonight, the remaining three contestants on each team will perform and once again, one contestant from each team will go home, meaning that as of next week, four contestants will remain on each team.

Constant improvement isn't always rewarded, and that was the case for Anna og Lusanda, who were sent home after their best performance when facing Wasteland in the B2. This week's theme is Danish music, which always brings us some interesting choices. This year is no exception, with picks including Mads Langer, Broen's theme and Marie Frank. ... It's time to face the music!

After the Battle Rounds finished last week, each coach was left with six contestants on their team. Tonight, it's crunch time for all four coaches as three acts from each team will be performing for the first time, and, by the end of the night, they will have five acts remaining as one contestant leaves each team. There is a slight format change this year because each coach will award points between 1 and 10 to the acts and these will be then be combined with public votes to come up with a bottom two on each team, with one act being eliminated on each team.

The Voice Of Ireland: Season 2: The Battle Rounds!

And so approaches the Battle Rounds! This stage of the competition resulted in some really poor decisions last year, with Kian the worst offender. However, with Jamelia replacing Brian, Kian on his best behaviour and Sharon having to pit three of her acts against one another for one battle, how will this year's Battle Rounds fare? Will current favourites, such as Roisin Carlin, Alexandra Miller, Ray Scully and Aoife McLoughlin manage to convince their coaches to keep them in the competition?

MDS Sound of 2013

More isn't always better and that's what I learnt from last year's poll. Sure, I managed to post about loads of exciting acts, 64, to be exact, but with time, you probably forgot most of them. I even forgot about them myself. Songstress Lana Del Rey topped the poll, with FOE, Kyla La Grange, Grimes and Lucy Rose placing 2nd to 5th respectively. So this time around, I've decided to feature 30 acts. You may be asking why 30? Just because I couldn't really decide which acts not to include, so I'll let you do that.

In case you are not familiar with the rules, the list features the most promising music acts for the coming year and instead of me being the only pundit, you will be part of the decision by casting your vote on your favourites! Featured acts must not have had an album by November 1st, 2012. There's also a bit of a rule change this year. Acts previously featured who failed to release anything the year they were nominated, can get a nod again. Don't expect the list to be full of repeats though.

So this is how the voting will work. In the next days, I'll post my Top 30 acts, that'd be a post for each act featuring it's music and my comments on them, and you'll be able to vote for them after all the acts are posted!  There will be 2 voting stages. The first stage will feature all the 30 acts. You'll be able to pick 5 acts, so choose wisely. The poll will initially be open for two weeks (I may add a few more days if needed). Then, in the second stage, the Top 15 acts, that's the 15 acts with the most votes will be in a new poll in which the winner will be decided!  ... Who will be the  sound of 2013?!
