I'm currently looking for some new writers in order to expand the blog given that I can't post the amount of things I'd like to. So if you are interested in writing about anything related to music (news, TV shows, album reviews, introducing artists) just drop me an email to musicisthedoor@gmail.com and we can discuss some of your ideas.

Swedish Week: Introducing: Anna Ternheim

Winner of multiple Swedish Grammys, this Stockholm native certainly has somthing to brag to her friends. And I would too! Not only she's a great musician with four albums released, she's also been recognized for her talent. And that means something! With a folk, almost bluesy sound, Anna's music evokes great feeling and shows lot of unique sounds. Her latest album, which earned her two Grammies, "Leaving on a Mayday", which includes the amazing song "Summer Rain" full of beautiful harmonies and shy quirky voices, is a sweetly blended album full of soft emotional tunes, such as the heartbreaking "My Heart Still Beats for You" and the oriental influenced "Terrified", showing her wide influences and versatility. Her new album is on the way, and expected for release this 2011, and clearly, Universal doesn't want her to go anywhere! Will this new album top all her previous success? I think so!

Swedish Week: Introducing: Veronica Maggio

Photobucket

Veronica Maggio is probably one of Swedish most successful new artists. The songstress has been climbing to success since 2006, same year in which she signed to Universal, when her debut album reached a #14, then her sophomore came #7 and her latest album, the stunning soulful "Satan i gatan", claimed the #1 spot for several weeks. She may seem another pop wannabe at first but there's something about her airy singing style that it's both haunting and fascinating. And if you are lucky enough to speak Swedish, you'll also be able to appreciate the beauty of her lyrics. I must admit I considered taking some Swedish classes, I even looked up where I could do them (and I might in the future), cause it sounds so beautiful when she sings in it! I actually learned her song "Jag Kommer", it's funny cause I sing in Swedish and I'm not able to understand what I'm saying. Haha. But seriously, she's got that little something that will get you hooked if you give her a chance, and I know you'll love it!

And it's finally here!! I must confess I was feeling lonely without any singing competition to watch. Haha. Glad the XF is back for another great season. Last year we had an amazing amount of talent, with the entire top 5 being signed to labels. Will this year's bunch of hopefuls be able to emulate the success of last year's contestants? I hope so! With a revamped judges panel, with Tulisa Contostavlos, Gary Barlow and Kelly Rowland joining useless Louis Walsh, this series promises to be refreshing and exciting! So, without more chatter ... It's time to face the music! (I missed using that phrase! Haha)

The Glee Project: The Final 4!

 Photobucket

With The Glee Project coming to an end, it's time that I make some coments on the final 4 contestants, considering one of them will be on my TV soon as part of the Glee cast. I've been watching the show but I decided not to make any recaps of it in case it bombed, after all, many newcomers I've covered in the past were cancelled, Must Be the Music and Don't Stop Believing anyone? Since I didn't cover it, the ratings have been great and a second season is almost a fact. And with the final coming on Sunday, here's a little something on each of the top 4 ...

Music Video: Atle Pettersen: Shine

Photobucket

SITE HERE

His rocker looks weren't enough to beat Hans Bollandsås on the Norwegian XF second season, but Atle has still managed to release his music and his latest effort, "Shine", reached #14 on the iTunes charts. The song is exactly what you could expect from him, a good well sang rock song. And that's it. There's not much originality here but it does the trick. But for a successful album, he'll have to do what fellow contestant Gabrielle did. Atle needs to start thinking out of the box if he wants more than a #14 ...

Music Video: Gabrielle Leithaug: Ring Meg

Photobucket

A huge surprise! I've always said that the first season of the Norwegian XF was one of the best I've seen in some time, almost all of the contestants were incredible musicians and most of them went to have a great success after their stint on the show. Chand Torsvik, the winner, and Tommy Fredvang, 5th, both went to release albums and 6th and 9th placers, Pernille Svensen Øiestad and Rikke Lie both were signed by Universal and have released singles, with upcoming albums in the way. But none of them have achieved a #1 hit. Well, that's until now! And it's coming from 7th placer Gabrielle Leithaug. The Under 25 category that season was amazing, conisdering that the four of them were females and three of them are now signed with Universal. I must say I wasn't expecting Gabrielle to reach a #1 at all. But then, I heard her debut single, "Ring Meg", and I understood it all. The song is not only super catchy but it's also an unique tune, it's not the typical pop song, it's electro meets reggae meets crazy. Don't believe me? See yourself!

Music Video: James Morrison: I Won’t Let You Go

Photobucket

With the release of James much annticipated third album, "The Awakening", approaching (September 26), the first single of it has been unveiled, the romantic bluesy "I Won’t Let You Go". James is my favourite male singer, I know I say this for many people, but he's actually my fave, so I'm incrediblly biased with him. But even for someone who isn't, his music is equally beautiful and flawless, it seems that every song he releases is a masterpiece and an immediate hit. If this song is an indication of the sound we can expect for his album, I'm calling a #1 position now ...

Music Video: iamamiwhoami: clump

Photobucket

Once more, iamamiwhoami has left us all with our eyes wide open and with a big question mark above our heads. Will any of their videos be understandable? I doubt it. And I hope they aren't, cause the wierdness and complexity of them it was make this project really interesting. "clump" features Jonna in the same toilet paper bed of "; john" intercalated with images of a blonde girl, which looks like taken from a horror movie. I think "o" is still my favourite song, though this one is really near it. The ambient, electro vibe it has, plus Jonna's great voice work perfectly well making it a great listening tune.

Music Video: Nerina Pallot: Turn Me On Again

Photobucket

With an almost vintage folkish sound, the beautiful Nerina Pallot has nothing to regret when she decided to purse music. She has released four albums and was nominated for a BRIT Award, but most importantly, she has released stunning musical pieces. "Turn Me On Again" is no exception. And neither are any of the songs of her latest album, "Year of the Wolf". I can't even name a bad song from it, that being one of the reasons I love Nerina, everything that comes from her is beautiful. Songs, covers, videos. Take this video for instance, how beautiful are those countryside views?!

Music Video: Katy B: Witches Brew

Photobucket

When I first featured Katy (HERE), I dubbed her the new Madonna and she's heard my words. The upcoming single, "Witches Brew", which will be released in September, follows that route. It's definitely a great song, one of my faves of her album, which is a great listening funky piece, and captures Katy's great disco driven voice (and some stunning visuals). In other news, the house godess wannabe was recently nominated to a Mercury Award, which includes nominees such as Adele, Anna Calvi, Everything Everything and James Blake among others. Despite it'll clearly be won by Adele, the sole fact of being nominated is an amazing achievement for Katy. Guess I can take the wannabe part now.

Swedish Week: Introducing: Sophie Zelmani

Photobucket

I'll keep this post as simple as the artist featured. With no proffesional training and zero performing abilities, Sophie Zelmani managed to become a success after the release of her eponymous debut and her widely known single "Always You", in 1995 after emaling some demos to Sony Music and being signed then. And after all, talent is natural, and so is the voice, I guess that having an amazing sweet soulful voice helped a lot! Since then, she has released 7 more albums, being the latest "I'm the Rain", and has been making small gigs due to her shyness. And that's it! I told you it was really simple ...

Music Video: Belle Amie: Girls Up

Photobucket

They weren't a success on the XF, and how could they? They were a bootcamp made group by Simon Cowell and who then were misscoached throught the competition. Adding to that, their voices weren't together and their song choices were all kinds of wrong and they were eventually eliminated at 10th place. Originally consisting of Rebecca Creighton, Esther Campbell, Sophia Wardman and Geneva Lane, the latest left the group leaving them as a three piece. Now signed with Dodient records, the three girls released their debut music video, "Girls Up", and, not like their TV stint, it's a success. The song is catchy, upbeat and is all a girl band should do. Bad move Geneva ... What are you doing now exactly? Cause I'd love to hear ...
