I'm currently looking for some new writers in order to expand the blog given that I can't post the amount of things I'd like to. So if you are interested in writing about anything related to music (news, TV shows, album reviews, introducing artists) just drop me an email to musicisthedoor@gmail.com and we can discuss some of your ideas.
X Factor UK 2010: The Semi-final (Top 5) Recap!!

Published by MDS
Only 5 remain and we are almost one week away from the grand final! And 4 will advance!! It'll be a four way final for the first time! The contestants are performing twice again this week, a disco tune and a "get me to the finals" song, aka, sing whatever you want! Who will be the one falling with only one week left? ... It's time to face the music!
UPDATE: Mary Byrne is eliminated!! Rebecca Ferguson, Cher Lloyd, Matt Cardle and One Direction are the finalists!
Read my recap and watch the videos after the JUMP ....
Who should go: One Direction
Who will go: Mary Byrne
Round 1:
Rebecca Ferguson
"Show Me Love"0901 61 61 101 - Oh, she's singing a disco uptempo tune! Love how she's sounding! Now that Katie is gone I'm a 100% behind Rebecca! This performance is really dynamic, tough she's not moving much, the dancers and the lights do that job. WOW! That fast line, sort of a scat, was amazing! That's what I love to hear! My favourite performance of the night for sure!
Mary Byrne
"Never Can Say Goodbye" 0901 61 61 102 - Ouch! This theme doesn't work for Mary, nor for any other contestant! What's this? 80s disco revival?! The dancers behind her are so old fashioned and so is her voice! I don't know if she wants to be in the final or not, but that performance won't help her! Mary was sick. Simon says that the song choice is horrible and Louis answers Mary's been sick?! What does it have to do with the song? Simon is right here!
Matt Cardle
"You Got the Love"0901 61 61 103 - Matt's been sick in bed. And he does look really sick, sweaty, literally death warmed up! Florence is one of my favourites and Matt is doing justice to that song! He's sounding terrific and he's got extra points for being sick! Some bum notes but the performance was amazing! No fake vocals here! Just Matt's amazing voice!
Cher Lloyd
"Nothin' on You"0901 61 61 104 - This song really fits Cher! I love how she's sounding and she's got a really pleasant phrasing! Oh, she's doing the rap parts too! Not convinced about this now. The transition between the singing and the rap sounds strange, like there's no one. But I really liked this performance. However, I prefer when she adds rap to a song that doesn't have it originally ...
One Direction
"Only Girl (In the World)" 0901 61 61 105 - WTF with this song choice? Liam sounds worst than ever, I can't believe I said he sounded good in the auditions! They aren't even harmonizing! Come on! Worst song choice of the night! Really, Simon is confident that tweens are voting for them so he's not even trying anymore!
Round 2:
Matt Cardle
"She's Always a Woman"0901 61 61 103 - Matt's going first because they fear he's going to faint! I wouldn't have picked this song for him! It's very romantic and cheesy, and all the stairs thing is too much. Matt is however, sounding terrific considering he's sick. And I actually really like the way he's singing this song! Matt is shoe-in the final!
Mary Byrne
"The Way We Were"0901 61 61 102 - That beginning was rough! Bad, bad, bad. Very boring song choice! Well, a very Mary song choice. Old fashioned and dull. I won't be surprised if she's eliminated! There were some moments were she sounded amazing and it was a very emotional performance but this can't get her to the final!
Cher Lloyd
"Love the Way You Lie (Part II)"/"Love The Way You Lie" 0901 61 61 104 - I adore this song! She's sounding ok. Not a massive performance but her voice works really well with this song! I would have avoided that rapping here, her singing alone was enough and it sounded pretty! The chorus surrounded by fire was amazing. But still, it wasn't excellent. Will Cher be the shocking elimination? I don't think so ...
Rebecca Ferguson
"Amazing Grace" 0901 61 61 101 - This song is so incredibly good for Rebecca! She sounds like an angel and has a beautiful tone. The chorus behind her, however, isn't needed, a little exaggerated. This song has get her to the final but I wanted a little more emotion, more big notes. I thought the song never took off, it was plain and a bit boring. Still, it was beautiful vocally!
One Direction
"Chasing Cars" 0901 61 61 105 - Another song I like being ruined by the horrible One Direction! Can't believe people still vote for them! Stop with all the cuteness thing! Models are cute! Not singers! Don't vote for them and offer them a modelling contract instead. What happened with the "cute" Lloyd Daniels from last year?, he's a model now!
That's it! The RESULTS are in! But first last night's guest performers! The Glee Cast and Alexandra Burke! Two massive performances and the best of the season so far! They should have been in the final! Alex flying through the stage and Amber Riley singing amazing notes in Simon's face were incredible!
Alexandra Burke
Glee Cast
Now, we are back to the results! The first finalist is ... One Direction! NOOOO!! Also in is ... Rebecca Ferguson!! I knew it! The final act in the final is ... Matt Cardle!! Mary Byrne and Cher Lloyd are in the Bottom 2! There's a sing-off? Something smells bad here? Fix? Probably ...
Sing-off
Mary Byrne
"It's a Man's Man's Man's World" - Mary is singing once again her best performance in the show, the one she performed in the first live show! And after that, I would have voted for her to stay! But she's to boring in all the other performances, so goodbye Mary, this is your swan song!
Cher Lloyd
"Everytime" - A very emotional and heartfelt performance but Cher is singing it horribly. Full of bum notes and really out of tune! If the judges were going to base in this performance, Mary would stay, but we all know they aren't going to!
So we are down to the VOTATION! Dermot is confusing the judges. They are voting for who to send through, not for who they want to send home. Louis is backing his own act, so he sends home Cher. Dannii says she's sending Cher through based on her vulnerability. Cheryl also backs her. Simon has the decision. Simon is sending Cher through! Mary Byrne is eliminated! We now have our finalists! Cher Lloyd, Rebecca Ferguson, One Direction and Matt Cardle will compete in the final!
