Manda: "Criminals" + "Sweetest Heartbreak" Video
28 January, 2014 5:33 PM
Good news for Manda fans! Not only does the former X Factor Sweden contestant has two songs out, the incredibly catchy "Sweetest Heartbreak", a song even Katy Perry would be jealous of, and the wonderful, equally addictive, pop ballad "Criminals", but she's also competing on this year's Melodifestivalen, which begins this Saturday (February 1), with the song "Glow", something that could potentially make her star a lot brighter. "Glow" was written by Joy Deb, Linnea Deb and Charlie Mason, the same team that wrote "Criminals", along with Melanie Wehbe, of Idol Sweden fame, and if that's any indication, her entry could very well end up taking home the prize.

Ms Murphy: "White Dress and the Spirit" Out Now + "Ritual Union" Video
5:33 PM
She wowed everyone with her renditions on The Voice Australia's second season and despite being eliminated on the semi-finals, she left a lasting impression on the public, resulting in her signing to Universal and the release of a brand new EP, "White Dress and the Spirit". The EP opens with a cover of Little Dragon's "Ritual Union", completely transformed into a bluesy Motown-era-sounding track and after just a few seconds you are glued to this phenomenal soulful effort. I guess it's to do with Ms Murphy's voice, there's no resisting that full rich tone of hers. Unfortunately, it only contains five songs but from the looks of it, I only expect greatness from this lady.

The Voice Of Ireland Series 3: Blind Auditions 3
20 January, 2014 6:32 PM
After a decent start, some really fantastic talent made it through to Battle Rounds last week, particular highlights being Kedar Friis-Lawrence and the amazing Ciara Donnelly whose quirky, bluesy tone was a breath of fresh air. Will the coaches be able to find even more superb Irish talent this week? I reckon so.

American Idol Season 13: Auditions 1
19 January, 2014 9:48 PM
I've not covered American Idol in ages, in fact, I can't even remember the last time I wrote a recap for it, but since this is a year of change, I thought I'd give it a shot. Much is different since Candice Glover was named the 12th winner last year, new executive producer, new judges, new format, everything is brand new. At least we can still count on Ryan Seacrest to stay the same. Keith Urban and Jennifer Lopez, after a year break, are both back and replacing the ancient Randy Jackson is jazz singer Harry Connick, Jr. Also out, Nigel Lythgoe and Ken Warwick as executive producers, replaced by Per Blankens, previously of Idol Sweden. Will all this changes help the show regain it's diminishing ratings? Does it still have what it takes to produce a star? ... This ... is American Idol!
