I'm currently looking for some new writers in order to expand the blog given that I can't post the amount of things I'd like to. So if you are interested in writing about anything related to music (news, TV shows, album reviews, introducing artists) just drop me an email to musicisthedoor@gmail.com and we can discuss some of your ideas.
The Voice Australia Season 1: Top 16 - Part 1 - Perform

While I'm moaning Laura Bunting's shocking exit last week, the show must go on and the Top 16 needs to take the stage once more. Team Seal and Team Delta will deliver their second live performance tonight in the hopes of raising to the top. Only two contestants from each team will advance to the semifinal. Will they join Jimmy Cupples and Taga Paa in the discarded reality star contestants or will they be Australia's new Reece Mastin? ... This is The Voice!
Recap after the JUMP ...
Team Seal
Chris Sebastian
"I Can't Stand The Rain" (Seal) - 6/10 - Chris describes this song as an old soul classic. He's singing Seal's version of it, so he's really feeling the preassure. He still doesn't feel he has shown what he's capabel of, he really feels this song will show Australia he can sing. Seal feels he made a mistake earlier on and he regrets that. (I tottaly agree) "Australia is gonna finally understand that he's every bit as good as his brother and has the potential to be brilliant on his own right", Seal says. I think this will be something Seal will regret too. This is just not the right song for Chris, again. I guess it's really hard to find a song for him which says to me he doesn't know what type of artist he wants to be. Chris does have lots of potential and a fantastic voice but his performances just aren't exciting. There was an improvement over last week though, not really sure if it was enough.
Emma Louise Birdsall
"The Look Of Love" (Burt Bacharach) - 8,5/10 - Seal wants Emma to have one or two events during the song where she could shine, she's been struggling to find that moment, she's very confused. "Don't think and just do, just sing", Emma says. Amazing jazz feel from this performance. Emma had some off notes but she sailed through it smoothly and her tone shone throughout it, just like Seal wanted it to. Her voice reassembled Corinne Bailey Rae's greatly and it made me love her voice even more than I before. There's such a timeless quality to her voice, I can't quite put my finger on it.
Fatai Veamatahau
"Ave Maria" (Beyonce) - 10/10 - Fatai says her gift comes from God, she feels this is the perfect song for her. Seal says that it's his job to pick a song that'll make her transparent. It's a very emotional song for her, she belives she could've a really nice moment with it. Well, let me say this. Fatai had her moment tonight. Apart from looking stunning in that white dress, the performance was truly ethereal and pure. One could tell she felt every word of it, her gospel side came out in this performance. Her voice shone from start to finish and I couldn't find a single mistake during it, and even if I did, I think I wouldn't have cared at all.
Karise Eden
"Landslide" (Fleetwood Mac) - 9/10 - Seal wants Karise to find a balance between her soft voice and her powerful voice. The song means a lot to Karise. She thinks it makes her choke up because she's looking at it like it's the past yet there are things that still bother her in her heart. "When she learns that it's okay to be vulnerable, that's when she'll skyrocket" (Seal) Another great performance for Karise, yet not as powerful as Fatai's. However, Karise's her past in her favour and the way she was choking up during the performance made it feel more sincere and powerful than it really was. I didn't see beast Karise at all tonight, she was just a vulnerable little kitten, and I loved it.
Team Delta
Danni Da Ros
"When Love Takes Over" (David Guetta featuring Kelly Rowland) - 7/10 - Delta says she's not sure what happened to her hair. If you remember, she looked awful. Delta thinks that despite Danni is a diva, she doesn't necessarily have to sing old material. She wants her to be young, hot and warmer on this performance. Better hair, better outfit, better song, better performance. This is what I expected from her, I'm not blown away with it but I did enjoy it more than "Alone". The song is relatively contemporary and though it does have an oldie vibe, she clearly pulled it off.
Viktoria Bolonina
"Smells Like Teen Spirit" (Nirvana) - 8,5/10 - Delta wants Viktoria to show the deep character she usually has while on stage and to not get lost while trying to be theatrical. Her last performance showed her smooth side, this one will give you a sneak peak of what she's capable of doing, according to Viktoria. "They are gonna either love it or hate it" I'm in love with this woman. The start was incredible and the performance just kept getting better. It got a little too much when she hit the chorus but that was all forgiven when she got to that smooth gentle ending. Plus look at that dress! That was hot!
Glenn Cunningham
"Closer" (Ne-Yo) - 8/10 -He felt he had an awakening after his first performance. His happy about his song choice, though I'm not sure about this at all. "My heart just feels like that switch has to happen in you where you come and say here I am, Glenn the superstar. He's got the talent but now he actually needs to truly feel like he is as bright as the lights that are shining on stage" (Delta) Seems like Glenn really took Delta's advice. He owned the stage like he was actually ment to be there and the performance was surprisingly better than I expected. Delta made a great move here.
Rachael Leahcar
"Someone To Watch Over Me" - 8,5/10 - Rachael feels she should've been born in the golden era of music. There's definitely something timeless in her voice so what she says makes total sense. She's gonna step it up and perform a lot more during this performance. My problem with her is that she has been singing this type of songs from the very start. This sounds exactly like her audition. There's nothing wrong about that cause her voice is beautiful and she really connects with the audience but if she keeps doing this, people may get bored, or not, who knows. I just want to listen something different. She did sounded fab though.
Other Performances
*Team Seal and Seal took on coach's classic "Kiss From A Rose". I really couldnt' care less about the contestants, cause Seal totally nails this song every time he sings it. It's probably one of the few songs I never get tired of listening to. Emma was the stand-out among the contestants, blink and you'd miss Karise. Did she even sing?
Predictions
With almost a week to vote for your faves, it's time to make some little predictions based on the iTunes charts. As proved by The Voice US, these are no indication of the actual results, which include phone, text and Facebook votes. Only difference is that buying iTunes singles count as two votes, so we'll see next Monday 21 if they actually make an effort on the votes. (iTunes positions as of May 29, 2012)
Team Delta
#10 Rachael Leahcar - "Someone To Watch Over Me"
#38 Glenn Cunninham - "Closer" (Ne-Yo)
#45 Viktoria Bolonina - "Smells Like Teen Spirit" (Nirvana)
#82 Danni Da Ros - "When Love Takes Over" (David Guetta featuring Kelly Rowland)
iTunes rankings seem to have cooled down a little on Delta's side. Her higest act is Rachael, as expected, at #10, with Glenn and Viktoria way behind at #38 and #45 respectively. Danni is the lowest ranked contestant this week, at #82, with that, I predict Danni Da Ros and Glenn Cunninham will be leaving us this time, cause there's no way Delta is letting Viktoria go.
Team Seal
#1 Karise Eden - "Landslide" (Fleetwood Mac)
#6 Fatai Veamatahau - "Ave Maria" (Beyonce)
#17 Emma Louise Birdsall - "The Look Of Love" (Burt Bacharach)
#17 Emma Louise Birdsall - "The Look Of Love" (Burt Bacharach)
#26 Chris Sebastian - "I Can't Stand The Rain"
Seal's team is totally the opposite from Team Delta. Three of his team members have cracked the top 20, with the lowest being Chris at #26. Karise is still leading the bunch, with Fatai taking over Emma after an impressive "Ave Maria" rendition. According to this, Chris Sebastian and Emma Louise Birdsall will be eliminated, though I hope she sees another week but I really don't want to lose Fatai either. Ugh, only one contestant should've been cut.
Results
Eliminated Contestants:
Emma Louise Birdsall
Chris Sebastian
Viktoria Bolonina
Danni Da Ros
This week, the iTunes rankings not only reflected the public's top vote getter but also the coach's save. Chris Sebastian and Danni Da Ros were dead on arrival, the only contestants with a chance were Viktoria and Emma. I get Emma's elimination, Fatai kicked it out of the park and deserved to stay over her. But in Viktoria's case, Delta chose to save her former backing singer Glenn and to me, that was an unfair advantage. She should've let him know.
