I'm currently looking for some new writers in order to expand the blog given that I can't post the amount of things I'd like to. So if you are interested in writing about anything related to music (news, TV shows, album reviews, introducing artists) just drop me an email to musicisthedoor@gmail.com and we can discuss some of your ideas.

X Factor New Zealand: Season 1: Top 7 Perform: Songs from the Movies

 photo Banner.png

In the first shocker of the season, the remaining Over 25, Anna Wilson, was eliminated last week, leaving former Australian Idol winner Stan Walker with no act left in the race. Mel's girl band, Gap5, found themselves in the B2 one more time, yet the girls were saved by majority vote. We'll be listening to songs from the movies tonight, so will it be a blockbuster or a major flop? ... It's time to face the music!

The Voice UK: Series 2: Top 4 Perform - The Grand Final!

 photo TheVoiceUKlogo_zps37999bad.png
Well we're definitely down to the nitty gritty now, it's the finals and only four acts remain but only one can win. Will it be powerful Northern Irish singer Leah Mc Fall, folk singer Andrea Begley, country vocalist Mike Ward or soul man Matt Henry? Personally I can't see any result but a Leah win but the public could surprise us like last year and deliver a surprising winner. All the same, it all hinges on tonight's performances, will one of the hopefuls blow us away?

The Voice US: Season 4: The Live Finals: Top 3 Perform: The Grand Finale

 photo TheVoice_zps4e1d79b4.png

Amber Carrington and Sasha Allen were eliminated during last week's semi-final, thus leaving both Shakira and Adam with no acts left in the competition. That means that Blake has two acts in the finale, while Usher only has one. After a season long battle for the crown, tonight we'll find out who'll take it all and  will succeed Cassadee Pope. Will it be the first duo to ever make it to the finale, The Swon Brothers? Maybe the quirky Michelle Chamuel? Or will it be country sweetheart Danielle Bradbery? ... This is The Voice?

X Factor New Zealand: Season 1: Top 8 Perform: Top 40

It was another bad week for Brit Mel Blatt as her much hyped girl band Gap5 had to sing for their lives against powerful singer Māka Fiso. It was Stan Walker who ultimately lost his act but Mel won't forget easily. Also saying goodbye, Fletcher Mills, whose run on the show hasn't been easy, to say the least. The remaining 8 contestants will take on Top 40 hits tonight. Will the judges pick the right songs for their acts? Has Mel learnt her lesson? (Don't count on it)  ... It's time to face the music!

Harrison Craig: "Unconditional" Out Now

  photo HarrisonCraig.png
Harrison was finally crowned the winner on tonight's show after a season in which he was the sole front runner. As anti-climatic as the announcement was, and whether I think he deserved it or not, he's by far not the worst winner the franchise's had. His previous original, "More than a Dream" made it to the top on the iTunes charts and the new song seems to be following a similar pattern. While not as good as the previous, which I thought was Harrison's biggest moment during the show, the tune is indeed quite nice. A bit cheesy lyrically but perfect as a coronation single. It remains to be seen if his album will be as successful as Karise's, and it probably will.

The Voice US: Season 4: The Live Finals: Top 5 Perform: The Semi-Final

 photo TheVoice_zps4e1d79b4.png

We said goodbye to country singer Holly Tucker last week, with Blake losing his first act since the live finals started. Now his team is down to two, The Swon Brothers and Danielle Bradbery. The rest of the coaches have one, Sasha Allen is Shakira's last hope, Amber Carrington is Adam's and Michelle Chamuel is Usher's. Tonight, the semi finalists will perform two songs each, one chosen by them as a special dedication and the other picked by their coaches. Since we only lost an act last week, we'll have a double elimination on tonight's live show. That also means that at least one coach will be left out of the finale, who'll it be? ... This is The Voice!

After the exit of Alys, Sarah, Mitchel and Leanne last week, it's two on each team as the remaining contestants fight it out head-to-head with their fellow team member for that spot in the final. Each team has just one spot in the final mind so who will get each place? And more importantly can anyone derail Leah who is the clear favourite?

The Voice UK: Season 2: Top 12 Perform!

 photo TheVoiceUKlogo_zps37999bad.png
After the knockout rounds, each coach has whittled their team down to just three artists with more than a couple of shock decisions (*cough* Abi and Conor *cough*). Anyway, tonight the Top 12 will perform with each coach getting to save one of their three artists. The remaining two on each team will go head to head in the public vote with one artist from each coach heading home. That means by the end of the night, there will be just eight artists remaining, two per team.

The Voice of UK: Season 2: The Knockout Rounds

 photo TheVoiceUKlogo.png
This is a new stage of the competition that has been introduced after The Voice US brought it into their third season in Autumn 2012. The way it works is each coach will choose one of their seven acts to automatically go through to the live shows, that act will sing what would have been their knockout round song as a victory song. The coaches will then sort the remaining six into two groups of three, each artist will sing one song and from each group of three, only one artist can go through leaving each coach with 3 artists for the live shows. With favourites such as Conor, Abi, Ash, Leah and Alys still in with a shot, who will make the lives?

We had some shocking results last week, with Sarah Simmons and Judith Hill leaving the competition. 6 acts remain now, 3 on Team Blake and only 1 on Teams Shakira, Usher and Adam. Tonight, the contestants will perform two songs each, one picked by their coach and one  by themselves. Instead of featuring another double elimination, 5 contestants will be advancing to the semi-finals. The pressure is on, who will be leaving us this week?

Cassadee Pope: "Wasting All These Tears" Out Now

 photo CassadeePope_zpsf2ec83d0.png
Less than six months ago, the former Hey Monday frontwoman was crowned the winner of the third season of The Voice US. During the show, she reinvented her punk pop image and morphed into a believable country artist with the help of coach Blake. That transformation is completed with her debut single, the radio ready "Wasting All These Tears", released June 4 via Universal Republic Nashville. While doing country music probably never crossed her mind, it was obvious that was the genre for her when she blow our minds with her Miranda Lambert's "Over You" cover. The new single is quite similar to that memorable performance and most importantly, it doesn't disappoint. It's honestly the perfect single to begin her career.

The Voice Australia Season 2: Live Finals: Top 12 Results + Top 8 Perform

 photo TheVoiceAu_zpseeb4bdf2.png

Last week, the Top 12 delivered some stunning performances and tonight, we will find out which of them has made it to the Top 8 as each team of 3 will again face the audience vote to determine who makes it through. Later, the remaining 8 will take the stage one more in order to make it through to next week grand final. If that wasn't enough, Karise Eden, S1 winner, will return to The Voice to perform her brand new single "Threads of Silence". ... This is The Voice!

Karise Eden: "Threads of Silence" Out Now

 photo KariseEden_zpscf991dcc.png

"I remember standing there waiting for the announcement, it was like the whole world had stopped. And then, I just went on the world" she says. Her debut album which mostly featured covers from the show went double platinum. It's kinda like a fire, you can't just throw a whole bunch of bushy, leafy  twigs on the fire, it's just gonna 'puff' and burn out really quickly, we've put a lot of wood on that and that's gonna keep it burning. And that's what I'm doing now, just that slow burning process of creating your own music". She's been co writing her album in London and Australia. Every song reflect her childhood memories, "like a journal, a musical journal". "I'm at a point in my life were I'm sailing my own ship and it's just such a peaceful place to be in your life" Karise adds. She co wrote "Threads of Silence" in London. The single, which is out today, June 4, features her characteristically mellow style, with her soulful beast of a voice delivering one of the best performances we've seen on The Voice stage. Already charting at #3, Karise's the staying power of becoming one of Australia's biggest stars and with time, I'm confident she will.

While most contestants still keep disappointing us, some early favourites Anna Wilson, Benny Tipene and Jackie Thomas starting to step up to the challenge. Last week, Taye Williams left the competition, news to which Stan didn't react well. The Top 11 will now take on the best of British music and looking at this set list, I expect most of them to bomb. Shall we start?
