I'm currently looking for some new writers in order to expand the blog given that I can't post the amount of things I'd like to. So if you are interested in writing about anything related to music (news, TV shows, album reviews, introducing artists) just drop me an email to musicisthedoor@gmail.com and we can discuss some of your ideas.
X Factor Australia 2012: Series Premiere - Auditions 1

After The Voice took the country by storm, it's time for the XF to try it's luck once more. The show had a highly successful series last year, managing to claim the #1 spot rating wise throughout it's run. Natalie Bassingthwaighte, Guy Sebastian, Mel B and Ronan Keating are all back in the panel and so is Luke Jacobs as the host. Honestly, we had quite a lackluster bunch of contestants this past year, with the exception of Three Wishez, Declan Sykes and winner Reece Mastin, so hopefully, we'll get a superior cast this year. So without further ado ... It's time to face the music!
Recap and videos after the JUMP ...
Bella Ferraro (18) - It's her birthday. She left school two months before auditioning, she said she ran out of motivation and didn't know what she wanted to do when she finished, so she decided to take the year off and try different things and see what she wanted to do, so she tried out for the XF. Bella is singing "Skinny Love", Birdy's version. Despite her nerves, her audition was quite spectacular. Bella's got a beautiful tone and there's a lot of soul in her voice. The judges gave her a standing ovation, Ronan stood on the table. The judges are already branding her as the frontrunner but Bella doesn't seem to realize it yet. The girls category is usually the weakest in this show, so it's nice to see there'll be some talent in it this year. - VIDEO
The judges say they've been asked by Simon to find the next One Direction this year, so they are shown asking contestants if they'll consider being in a boyband. What an awful idea, we don't need another 1D, one is more than enough. Honestly, I wish there was none at all. But there's a boyband that's beaten the judges in their own game. What About Tonight met on YouTube and started connecting with each other until the group was born. "The world has 1D, what makes you different?" Ronan asks, "We are Australian", one of them says. And he's right, they are a total rip-off of 1D. Have I already mentioned that I hate boybands? Their vocals are average and they try winning the teens with their silly coreography and by the looks of it, the audience is full of them. Ugh, I don't see them going away anytime soon. - VIDEO
Jason Owen (18) - He's from the country, from a 12 people town. Jason is a truck driver and apparently, he loves it. Back in 2005, he had a motorcycle accident with his dad in which they hit a kangaroo. His dad was into a coma for a while after it, apparently he saved him, but I missed half his story cause I couldn't understand his accent. Haha. He is a country singer, he reminds me to Mitchell Callaway, but Jason is much better. Not a fan of his genre but I could see him getting far. - VIDEO
Adil Memon (17) - "I don't even say my name right apparently". Adil is a lifeguard, he loves the outdoor living, the weather and the girls. He's been singing for about a year. He says he speaks fast cause his mom is from Ireland. Haha. For someone who's only been singing for a year, he's surprisingly great. His rendition of "Waiting on the World to Change" was incredibly haunting, it's hard not to like him. He's got a great personaily and his voice sounds fantastic, I just hope they don't try to put him into a crappy boyband. - VIDEO
Shiane Hawke (14) - She says her dream is singing at the Emmy. She says she's performed in local competitions before.Shiane is singing "Mercy" and despite a clear lack of performing skills, she's got a powerful voice. Her tone is a little shrill but the judges are still shocked with her talent. She's good but they are overreacting it a bit for me. With a lot of work, she could be great though. - VIDEO
Nathaniel Willemse (26) - He's a wedding singer and former Australian Idol S4 contestant, in which he made it to the semis. He says it wasn't an easy decision, if he doesn't get through today, he may throw the towel. He says he's worried cause he's been trying to get a break for a while and to see it collapse it could be heartbreaking. Mel starts making faces as soon as Nathaniel walks on stage. What's her problem with hm? He's singing "Gravity" and nailing it until Mel stops him. She says he looks great and that he can sing but that she found it boring. She wants to feel his personality as well and I tend to agree, he looked dead up there. Nat found it captivating and I agree with her as well, his voice is quite magical, he just needs to find an attitude. - VIDEO
Samantha Jade (25) - Samantha's been in the business for a while. When she was 15 she was signed to Jive Records in the US and made a record but it never came out and it all fell through. "It was really horrible and tough. I cried for weeks and the only thing that got me through was my family. I moved to Perth and I had to support myself so my dad got me a job in his mining factory where he works. That was a huge change cause I went from being in studios to being in a factory. I see this audition as my last chance." Guy and Samantha are friends, he calls her his mate. Samantha's got a phenomenal voice, her runs were crazy good and she's got a very likeable personality. We'll be seeing her again, without a doubt. - VIDEO
Josh Brookes (20) - Remember him? Josh was cut when Guy decided to take Johnny Ruffo to the Judges Houses for some unknown reason. He still doesn't know why Guy picked Johnny over him but he took it as a blessing in disguise. Guy says he was one of his biggest regrets last year. Josh is singing "Tears In Heaven", he says he's singing it because since he's heard the song the only thing in his mind is the struggle his mom went through when she lost a child at birth. He dedicates it to his mom and the child she's lost. Josh is definitely sounding a lot better now. He wasn't the best singer last year, and he's not now either, but he's improved greatly. The performance was really memorable and it showed a completely different side to the Josh we've seen in the past. Definitely my fave of the night. - VIDEO
