I'm currently looking for some new writers in order to expand the blog given that I can't post the amount of things I'd like to. So if you are interested in writing about anything related to music (news, TV shows, album reviews, introducing artists) just drop me an email to musicisthedoor@gmail.com and we can discuss some of your ideas.
Eurovision 2014: Semi-Final 2

Eurovision is back for another year, this time live from Copenhagen after Denmark took home the prize thanks to Emmelie de Forest's "Only Teardrops". 36 countries are competing and tonight, 15 entries will present their songs. Who'll be succeeding Denmark?
Highlights after the jump ....
A much stronger semi-final. There were very few truly bad songs and the ones I didn't feature were still better than some I did for the first. Don't think the winner is among them though.
You can find all the performances HERE
Austria - Conchita Wurst - "Rise Like a Phoenix" - I'm not entirely sure how I feel about this one. The song ain't bad though I don't really think I like it. It's very epic sounding but at the same time it feels like a rejected soundtrack for a Bond movie. On top of that, I can't really begin to take her?/him? seriously while looking like the bearded lady.
Lithuania - Vilija - "Attention" - For some reason, this song didn't get enough votes to make it to the final. It totally should have. It's the perfect, catchy pop tune that'll make you tap your feet. Vilija's energetic and charming delivery, though not vocally flawless, also should have worked for it. So what happened?
Romania - Paula Seling & Ovi - "Miracle" - A cute song, maybe even too cute and at times overly cheesy. It feels like the typical Disney song until a dance beat sends it in a different direction. Paula is the real stand out here while the guy's addition is kinda unnecessary. The circular piano looked cool though.
Malta - Firelight - "Coming Home" - A pleasantly surprising tune, with decent vocals, decent melody and decent lyrics. So I'm using decent a lot cause that's exactly what it was, a decent delivery, nothing spectacular but still an enjoyable, folky song.
Finland - Softengine - "Something Better" - This reminds me to Denmark's 2011 entry,
A Friend in London. It's a competent rock song, one of the few I've heard this year, and for that, it may have a slight edge. Not the biggest fan of the lead's forced delivery but the song ain't really that bad.
Norway - Carl Espen - "Silent Storm" - This is the type of song I'd expect from Iceland. Moody, dark, enchanting. I was so captivated by this gorgeous song and the simple delivery from Carl. I wonder if it's going to get lost in the finale, I hope it doesn't.
Through to the final:
Malta - Firelight - "Coming Home"
Norway - Carl Espen - "Silent Storm"
Poland - Donatan & Cleo - "My Słowianie - We Are Slavic"
Austria - Conchita Wurst - "Rise Like a Phoenix"
