Album Review: Lee DeWyze: Live It Up

"Live It Up" is the first major release of the current AI winner, Lee DeWyze, champion of Season 9. The album was released on November 16, 2010 by RCA/19. The album has sold only 39000 copies, making Lee the lowest AI winner seller, but the lackluster season and the current american economy have the blame of that, so I predict Lee will have a more sucessful second album.

If Duffy had a kid with Amy Winehouse being James Morrison the sperm donor, Aurea would be born!!! That's because the 23 years old Portuguese singer has such an amazing soul voice that's it's really hard to compare it to an only artist! Jazz, blues but mainly soul is where this wonderful singer feels comfortable and that shows beautifully in her eponymous debut, which was released on September 27, 2010. The grace of a brazilian supermodel and the voice of an Ella Fitzgerald reencarnation is what makes this girl stand out! She may not be quiet known in the UK or in the USA yet, but her record deal with Sony Music may make that happen! Get ready for Aurea, cause she's coming!

Detroit native, Alex Winston, multi-instrumentalist and singer by nature may have easily been adopted by the UK. The truth is that one of her songs has been featured on a Hyundai advertisment and since then all brits have fallen in love with her! Comparisons with Ellie Goulding are inevitable here and hopefully her carrer takes the same path as the latter. With an angelical voice and an eclectic style, Alex is set to make it big very, very soon. An autumn like style and a fascination for peacock's feathers and zebras surely make beautiful covers, but they also represent this gifted singer, don't you feel autumn-ish while hearing to her? An EP made in her basement (as it's title clearly states) and a wonderfully catchy and inspiring single, "Choice Notes", the reason of all the fuzz, is all that's needed to fall in love with her, and if that's not enough, some acoustic magic waits after the jump!

Music Video: X Factor UK 2010: Top 16: Heroes

The Top 16 were back on last week's results show to perform their charity single, a cover of 1977 David Bowie's "Heroes". The song was released as a charity single in aid of Help for Heroes, a charity which supports injured servicemen and women. The song is really beautiful and it's a really good charity. And I'm glad they didn't give any lines to Wagner or to Diva Fever!

Catching Up With: Maaike Vos: "Stop" Music Video featuring T.I.M.

Maaike Vos was the runner-up of the latest season of the Dutch X Factor, which Jaap won. The girl, however, was also signed by Sony Music and is now working on her debut! This song is a collaboration between Maaike and dutch band T.I.M. which was released on November 8, while the music video premiered on November 15. I'm not a fan of the music video, although Maaike looks amazing. It's a bit boring and monotonous, and very predictable. I don't know, it looks really low quality and cheesy to me. The song, however, is incredible! Maaike's voice is sounding terrfic and she's pulling some really difficult notes! And the other singer has a really pleasant raspy tone! I'm more than anxious for her album!

Catching Up With: The Johnsen Sisters: First Single, "Reason"

The Johnsen Sisters are a norwegian sister duo who took part in the first season of the norwegian version of the X Factor. The sisters came out 8th, a really good place considering the talented Rikke Lie came out only 9th. They have since released their first single, titled "Reason", which was released June 21, 2010. The song isn't incredible but it's exactly what I was expecting from them! A mainstream country tune! Their voices aren't amazing but are ok, enjoyable indeed. Not pitch perfect but what's special in them is their passion, they sing with such joy that it actually makes me forget of all the little mistakes in their voices. Expect a really good country album from them!

Music Video: Cheryl Cole: The Flood

The amazing Cheryl Cole, current XF judge, has just released a new music video. The song is taken from her sophomore album, "Messy Little Raindrops", which was released on November 1, 2010. "The Flood" will be released on January 3, 2011, while the music video debuted on November 24. We all know that Cheryl doesn't have the best voice but she can actually sing!! The song is so simple and pure that it gives me chills! I love the video and the way Cheryl looks, that being the reason why I love it. The song isn't huge but it's really, really good!

X Factor US: First Promo!!!

We all know by now that the X Factor is coming to America in the Fall of 2011, that's September!!!! We also know that it will air in Fox and that Simon will be the judge. The other judges are still a mistery but there've been many big names thrown, Katy Perry, Mariah Carey, Nicole Scherzinger and even XF UK judge Cheryl Cole. Nothing is certain yet but we can bet it'll be huge!! Only looking at this promo it makes me feel amazingly excited!! Simple and with loads of mystery! WHO ELSE IS EXCITED?!! I'm over the moon!

Music Video: Lisa Lois: Little By Little + New Single: Love Me Tender

Lisa Lois was the winner of the second season of the dutch X Factor. Since then, she has released her debut album, "Smoke" and has released 5 singles, two of which are the subject of this post. "Little By Little" is Lisa's fourth single released May 29, 2010. It's music video premiered on July 13. The song charted #7 on the Dutch charts, and there's no reason it wouldn't, it actually should have climbed to #1! It's a powerful rock tune and her voice sounds so perfect! It's such an intense song! It's not a cover of the Oasis song as many think. The video features Lisa singing with coloured shots moving across the screen, it's actually pretty interesting!
"Love Me Tender" was released on October 8, 2010 and features both Lisa and Elvis Presley. It's set to appear on the dutch version of "Viva Elvis", which was released on November 16. (You can find it HERE). The song sounds really sweet. Their voices blend really well and even if Elvis is dead, it actually seems a real duet. Lisa is an incredible vocalist after all and can do magic with any song she's thrown, that's why she won the XF after all!

Debut Single: Gamu Nhengu: Where Will You Sleep This Christmas?

Controversial X Factor semi-finalist Gamu Nhengu is about to release her first single, a Christmas song titled "Where Will You Sleep This Christmas?". The song will be released for charity in favour of the Aberlour Child Care Trust. Gamu is joined by the Aberlour Choir on the song. Her vocals are really excellent, as we got to see on the show, very jazzy and unique. But the song ... it's horrible! I mean, there are million of Christmas songs to cover, so why choose this?! It's so boring and dull!! Gamu does her best with it but the problem is the song! But it is for charity, so when it's released on December 13, go and buy it!! What do you think? Is there a record deal for Gamu coming? Or will she try for the XF again next year?

Music Video: Rikke Lie: Good Girl

Rikke Lie might have come 9th on the first season of the X Factor Norway. She might not have been signed immediately. She might not have an album. But now she is! Rikke was signed by Univeral Music some months after the show and now has an album in the works!!! Her debut album, set for early 2011, is titled "Short Stories". Rikke's first single, "Good Girl", was released on September 3, 2010. The music video was released three days later, on September 6. I'm so in love with her!!! Her voice is really unique and powerfull!! It was really unfair she only came 9th on the X Factor! The video is really Alice in Wonderland meets Monsters Inc., which I found really interesting! The orchestra sounds amazing and I love Rikke's dress! And the way she runs when the door explodes is magnificent!! I know she'll be big, there's no doubt about that!

Twin sisters, Helena and Maria, originally auditioned for American Idol but were told to stick as a duo, and I'm glad they took that advice!! Now, they are known as HelenaMaria, and have just released their first single "Live My Life For Me", released October 8. It's music video premiered on October 13, 2010. They have also released several covers of songs like "The Climb" and "Love the Way you Lie" among others. They really have terrific voices! Not like those teens who think they can sing, they have it! It may be a little too thin but there's power in there! The video is incredible too! The whole meaning of the song alone is amazing but adding to it the video, it's surreal!! A must listen!

Music Video: Ingrid Michaelson: Parachute

This is Ingrid's version of "Parachute", a song popularized by Cheryl Cole on 2009. The song was actually written by Ingrid so is logical she released her version. This music video premiered on October 20, 2010. The song sounds really different from Cheryl's and I actually prefer this one! It's calmer and purer! The video, however, is a bit strange. I don't get why she's flying to a floting orange with a basil plant growing on it, it has nothing to do with the song! And those silly lights! Yikes! But I love how Ingrid looks!! And the scientist parts weren't any bad!

Music Video: Jessie James: Boys in the Summer + Dear John

America's country voice is currently working on her second album. So in the meantime, here are to amazing music videos for you to enjoy. The first song is her new single, "Boys in the Summer" which was released on June 29, while the music video premiered on June 18. And the second is "Dear John", which isn't a single but it's a music video, which premiered on September 15. Both track are bold and sexy and showcase Jessie's vocals amazingly. "Dear John", however, is my favourite. It's instantely catchy! I found myself singing it all the evening! "Boys in the Summer"'s video is better, maybe it's because it's in colour or maybe because it's really sexy, any case, I love it!

Music Video: Darin: Lovekiller

"Lovekiller" is Darin's fourth single of his fifth album of the same name. It was released on July 13, 2010, peaking to #5 in the Swedish charts, while the album peaked to #1!! As three of his other albums, in a total of 5! The video premiered on October 27 on YouTube. It's shot movie-like, which really works! On the negative side, Darin looks too white and those shadows don't look good at all. But the video is really enjoyable and Darin's voice sounds terrific, plus the song is really well written.
